Searches for new physics in final states with ”paired dijets” with Run III data from the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC
Summary:
The paired dijet search of the CMS experiment aims to find Physics beyond the
Standard Model using a variety of models that predict new broad and narrow resonances that decay into final states with at least four hadronic jets. In this context,
the data obtained from the CMS experiment in the year 2024 are presented and
their quality is examined in detail. Initially, the hadronic jets reconstructed by
the Particle Flow algorithm used in the analysis are compared to the corresponding calorimetric ones, in order to identify possible pathologies. For this, detailed
comparisons of their characteristics are performed both between real and simulated data. These checks ensure the high quality of the data taken in 2024. Then,
and in order to determine the main analysis background from Quantum Chromodynamics, the results of fitting various parametric functions to the Run III data
are presented. This constitutes an additional decisive control of the data quality
and is the first step of the entire complete analysis that will follow. Moreover, preliminary limits of the analysis are presented. The results are interpreted in the
framework of a model containing a diquark, which decays to vector-like quarks, which in-turn decay to a quark and a gluon.
