Summary:
This dissertation is the first study written about John Philoponus’s Exegesis
on Nicomachus’ of Gerasa Arithmetic introduction. It introduces a
methodological and exegetical context derived from the current
historiographical trends in the History of Late Antique and Medieval
Mathematics. It contains examples of both texts, viewed in relation and case
studies that revolve around the history and evolution of late antique
arithmetical theory, as they can be found and commented on by John Philoponus.
It is a study through the interdisciplinary scope of History of Science, and
specifically the latest trends in the History of Late Antique and Medieval
Mathematics.
