Original Title:
Αιμορραγία τρίτου σταδίου τοκετού. Ατονία μήτρας.
Languages:

Summary:
As soon as I started composing this paper, I realized that it is obviously not
possible to cover everything that concerns such an important obstetric issue.
However, an effort has been made to provide a brief description of postpartum
haemorrhage, citing shortly the causes, diagnosis and treatment given, and
analyze the most common complication of labor's third stage, which is uterine
atony.
In the second chapter, you will find all the risk factors which lead to this
complication separately referenced, along with the substantial part that each
one has to play in the labor. You can also find out how the diagnosis of
uterine atony using an acronym takes place in such cases, which helps in the
differential diagnosis.
The major goal through this complication, is to achieve the management of
uterine atony, and that is the reason why it occupies such a large part of this
thesis. Then, a comprehensive description of the drug therapy follows, by
categorizing the uterotonic medications and documenting their role, as well as
their advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, comes the surgical approach of
the incident, where I express both techniques and ways to control postpartum
haemorrhage that promise to maintain fertility, and the last, but life-saving
solution of emergency peripartum hysterectomy.
Finally, as a perinatal outcome, I describe a relevant incident, which gives us
another example of the effectiveness of new techniques, as far as the treatment
of uterine atony and the future preservation of women fertility are concerned
(photos included have been taken from the hospital "REA").
