Evaluation of chest compressions on manikin in three different conditions: a) basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr), b) basic cpr with cardiopump and c) basic cpr with pocketcpr device
Summary:
Aims: Aims of present study were a) the evaluation of chest compressions’ (CC)
frequency and depth during basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a
manikin, from health professionals (physicians, nurses) of both genders, in
three different conditions 1) basic CPR, 2) basic CPR with cardiopump and 3)
basic CPR with pocketCPR device and b) compare the results of these three
different conditions to find out the effectiveness of these methods in CC’
quality during basic CPR.
Methods: Volunteers (Ν= 72) were physicians (Ν= 34) and nurses (Ν= 38), who
after a 20 min training and practice, performed basic CPR for 2 min on a
standard adult manikin with a 30:2 compression to ventilation ratio.
Ventilation was provided with a bag mask. Basic CPR process was performed 3
times in 3 different conditions (basic CPR, pocketCPR, cardiopump), with a 2
min interval after each condition. Recording of CC’ frequency and depth was
realized simultaneously through laptop computer device using specialized
software. ( Resusci Anne Skill Reporter, Laerdal Medical).
Results: Basic CPR method was significantly better compared to the other two as
concerns CC’ frequency (means ± sd: 113.83 ± 28.84 CC/min), CC’ number (means ±
sd: 154.68 ± 34.22), as well as CC’ percentage with correct hands position
(means ± sd: 87.86 ± 32.77 %). Basic CPR with pocketCPR device was
significantly better compared to the other two in CC’ depth (means ± sd: 42.99
± 5.38 cm). Basic CPR with cardiopump device was not significantly better
compared to the other two in any evaluated CC characteristic.
Conclusions: CC’ evaluation, performed on manikin, during basic CPR in 3
different conditions (basic CPR, pocketCPR, cardiopump), showed that chest
compressions’ frequency was higher in basic CPR, while chest compressions’
depth was bigger in basic CPR with pocketCPR.
