Genetically modified foods and effects on child health
Summary:
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs ) are those whose genetic material has
been altered in an abnormal manner ( eg natural reproduction and / or natural
recombination) .
This study focuses on a burning and controversial issue for all parties . The
promotion of genetically modified species is considered by many as yet another
means of increasing business profits , as another tool to distract the people
from
governments , as another experiment the scientists in humans.
In addition, GTT offer the opportunity to overcome the barriers which puts our
nature and combine genes from very different species which never could be found
on the same core under natural conditions .
On the issue of genetically modified food and health effects , reasons :
Excessive
population growth will initially examined , lack of micronutrients in
underdeveloped
countries , enhancement of foods .
Through this work are taken from the reader information on genetically
modified food , the effects on health, the environment, the economy and society
,
the impact on children.
The need to increase the amount of food available because of high population
growth is only one of the reasons why biotechnology development occurred in the
food sector .
But there are drawbacks . Reviewed on GM foods fall into three categories:
environmental risks , the risks to human health and economic concerns.
The environmental risks related to inadvertent damage to other organizations ,
the reduced effectiveness of pesticides. The risks to human health associated
with
allergen and other effects . There is a possibility that introduction of a gene
into a
7
plant may create a new allergen or cause an allergic reaction in sensitive
individuals
The financial concerns have to do with the introduction of genetically modified
food on the market , a lengthy and costly process . In addition ,
representatives of
consumers worried that the promotion of these new varieties will increase
considerably the value of the seed, so small farmers and the third world
countries
will not be able to afford to buy seeds for genetically modified cultures .
