Original Title:
Η δυσλειτουργία της όσφρησης και της γεύσης σε ασθενείς με καρδιακή ανεπάρκεια
Summary:
This research study focuses on how the senses of taste and smell vary during
the development of heart failure, taking into consideration the pharmacological
treatment of the patients.
The interaction of taste and smell with heart failure was evaluated in 100
patients suffering heart failure and 20 healthy patients from the General
University Hospital "Attikon" and the General Hospital "Asklipeio" Voulas, with
the use of questionnaires.
There was high correlation between the presence of olfactory dysfunction
during the last two years and heart failure with p=0.008, while also noted a
significant statistical change between the sense of taste and heart failure
NYHA stages with p=0.020. Furthermore it was found that taste varies and
affects the quality of life of the patients during the last stages of heart
failure. In the contrary, a non statistical difference was found on the changes
of the intensity and sensitivity of smell. These results have already been
confirmed from previous studies which have shown an alteration in olfactory
function due to bronchodilatory drugs.
