Summary:
Animal cruelty is an unlawful, morally unacceptable, antisocial behavior
associated with mental health disorders of human abuser. It is associated with
conduct disorder in children and adolescents and with antisocial personality
disorder and various addictions in adults. Animal cruelty is linked to various
forms of intrapersonal violence within the family and outside such us bullying.
Specifically, animal abuse by children is a sign of violent behavior and
delinquent acts in later adulthood. Veterinarians are responsible for the
diagnosis of animal abuse and neglect cases and writing the forensic report.
Creation of a wide network by psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists,
veterinarians, teachers, media police and judicial authorities is required, in
order to raise awareness for this multi-facetted issue and to prevent all forms
of violence in society.
