Ariel ένα long non coding RNA με πιθανό ρυθμιστικό ρόλο στη νευρογένεση
Languages:

Summary:
A significant percentage of the genome codes for long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs)
that
function in diverse biological processes. Here, we have identified a novel
lncRNA, named
Ariel, which is transcribed from Prox1 gene locus in an anti-parallel manner
during brain
development. We have previously shown that Prox1 regulates the fine balance
between
neurogenesis and astrogliogenesis in NSCs during development. Here, we provide
functional evidence that Ariel exerts an antagonistic action in Prox1 by
suppressing
its expression and promoting astrogliogenesis at the expense of neurogenesis.
These
observations raise the intriguing possibility that the Ariel-Prox1 genomic
locus may act as
a molecular switch for the differentiation of NSCs during development.
