Study of the Crustal Magnetic Field of the North Hemisphere of Mars
Summary:
In this work we examine the crustal magnetic field of the North Hemisphere of
Mars; we use Mars Global Surveyor recordings during the “Science Phasing
Orbit”. The observational results were fitted by an analytic approximate model
with the dipole moment vector, the magnetic background and the depth of the
magnetic source treated as free parameters. Our results indicate that our
approximate model is qualitatively consistent with the measured magnetic fields
in that the sources may be described as dipoles at a depth of about 290 km.
