The Economics of Cloud Computing
Summary:
In this paper we present the economic assessments of cloud computing
technology, a new frontier of the IT era where business software solutions and
hardware resources are offered by global server networks, named “the cloud”,
and can be accessed via the internet. Cloud computing is expected to offer
flexible and suitable IT solutions for almost all possible needs of commercial,
private and public customers. Although the idea of providing computing as a
utility is not new, recent technological developments have caused the costs for
providing large scale computing and storage capacity to decline significantly.
Furthermore the enormous increase of available network bandwidth has increased
the accessibility of network services and solutions to the potential users.
Consequently cloud computing, sometimes referred to as an old idea that has
already been matured in order to prevail, has been the new frontier of the
internet era.
