Summary:
Τhe purpose of the present thesis is the synthesis of block copolymers
polyethylenoxide - polyleucine with different molecular weights. The synthetic
approach involves the synthesis of the monomer of leucine. The precursor
leucine N-carboxy-anhydride was successfully synthesized using Fuchs-Farthing
method and was used to prepare polyleucine followed by the ring opening
polymerization of the monomer with end – amino – functionalized PEO as the
macroinitiator. The synthesized copolymers were characterized and identified by
Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The success of
the synthesis was based on the employment of high vacuum techniques in
combination with argon inert atmosphere techniques, providing highly purified
solvents, reagents and synthesized polymers.
