Summary:
This work was conducted within the graduate thesis in the field of Inorganic
Chemistry, University of Athens. It covers literature of photo-catalytic
systems for hydrogen production in homogeneous catalysis. We carried out
synthesis and characterization of the Re(CO)3Cl(bipy) and
Co(dmgH)2(-4-COOMe-py)Cl2 complexes using IR chromatography, UV-Vis, and NMR.
There’s been an attempt to detect hydrogen in the following systems:
Re(CO)3Cl(bipy)/Co(dmgH)2(-4-COOMe-py)Cl2/TEOA/HBF4,
Re(CO)3Cl(pq)/Co(dmgH)2(-4-COOMe-py)Cl2/TEOA/HBF4 and ReOCl3(pq)/
Co(dmgH)2(-4-COOMe-py)Cl2/TEOA/HBF4. The Re(CO)3Cl(bipy), Re(CO)3Cl(pq) and
ReOCl3(pq) complexes were used as photosensitizers (PS), the
Co(dmgH)2(-4-COOMe-py)Cl2 complex was used as electron donor (D) and TEOA as
electron relay (R), in DMF/H2O 3:5. For hydrogen detection we used gas
chromatographer TCB (Thermal Conductivity Detector).
