In the recent years, there is a lot of interest on technologies development
that concerns the safe exchange of confidential or not information, such that
people activities like financial transactions can be done easier, faster and
effectively. The number of mobile payments in all developed countries keeps
rising. As a result, there have been developed technologies like NFC (Near
Field Communication) and RFID (Radio Frequency Indetification), which
constitute the basic systems for exchanging information that are being used and
simultaneously developed by co-operations of mobile network businesses, banks
and mobile manufacturers. More and more people buy smartphones which contain
the NFC technology and can carry out proximity payments.


The first chapter of this paper is about the importance of the NFC system and
mobile payments nowadays. Τhe second chapter analyses the NFC system's
functionality and makes references of the advantages it offers. At the same
time other related technologies are analyzed, ie RFID and NDEF. The third
chapter is about the security of NFC, the dangers and ways of handling them.
The fourth chapter mentions the mobile payments, the ways of financial services
and mobile services as also the use of NFC to contactless proximity payments.
On the fifth chapter we analyse the market of mobile payments and provide
statistics results of the mobile payments' globally progress.
Finally, the conclusions that derived from the above study are presented in
chapter six.
