Summary:
This thesis aims at the implementation and the evaluation of educational
materials for the teaching of Mathematics and Informatics in the first grade of
high school. Based on the topics included in the curriculum of the Informatics
course in the first class of the High school, the sections of “Loop Structure”
and “Programming Language html” have been selected for teaching and preparation
of several exercises.
The educational material consists of microworlds and synthetic tasks based on
the programming language logo, as well as closed questions and worksheets to
support students in the learning of related concepts. Also, the difficulty and
the requirements of the educational material is escalating.
In Chapter 2 we describe the main reasons by which programming language logo is
selected, instead of other programming languages. In addition we present a
brief historical overview, we highlight the importance of educational tools and
especially the programming language Logo, describing their importance as a
teaching tool, evaluation and learning. We emphasize that a primary educational
tool and not just a helpful educational material. Also we analyze the meaning
of Constractivism and of Microworld. Then in chapter 2 we describe the
logo-like environments and educational tool Microworlds Pro.
In Chapter 3 the main part of this thesis, we present all the educational
materials, which is used in this thesis. Moreover, we use the microworlds of
Microworlds Pro in order to help the students understand concepts of geometry
in conjunction with the repeat structure and logo programming language.
Furthermore didactic objectives are described, the necessary theoretical
background is analyzed and also there are included the student worksheets with
their answers. The activities are the student's hand, contain short-answer
questions, multiple choice and synthetic group activities. The activities in
the students’ worksheet contain short-answer questions, multiple choice
questions and group activities.
Chapter 4 of this thesis refers to html programming language with support
materials, which are constructed for the course of Informatics if the first
grade of high school.
In Chapter 5 we present the didactic use of the educational material with
indicative answers of students on the High School ‘Anavryta‘, in the course of
Informatics. These exercises were created by us with the contribution of the
teacher Eirini Doutsiou. We also analyze the statistical results of the
submitted answers as well as the outcome from the questionnaire, which
describes the impressions of the students about the lesson.
