Summary:
Undoubtedly, nowadays there is a widespread consolidation of devices that
support touch based interaction. Currently, there is not any report that sums
all the traits of this interaction. It is essential these traits are
gathered so they could be easily accessible to anyone interested in learning
more about this type of interaction. This report is an effort to sum up these
traits. Firstly, a description is presented so that the reader can clarify what
exactly this interaction is.  Next, the evolution of this technology is
presented so the reader can understand when and how this technology started and
evolved through the years until today. The characteristics of this type of
interaction alongside with the advantages and the disadvantages follow. The
next chapter describes the ways that input is given  in these devices and how
is the gesture defined. The following chapter consists of a list of the most
used and common gestures that exist in modern devices and what are the actions
that each one triggers. The next chapter describes how gestures can be grouped
in categories based on common traits they have. Furthermore a grouping of
common gestures is presented to the reader based on the characteristics above.
Next, there is a sum of known issues that exist nowadays and need further
investigation because they cause a great confusion among the users of devices
that support touch based interaction. The next chapter is an effort of
consolidating  parameters that enhance greatly the user interaction. Also, the
evolution of the virtual keyboards that are used in most devices is presented.
Finally, the current design trends of applications related to this interaction
of this time (2015) are described and the conclusions that occurred during the
period of working this report.
