Strategies for collecting information for the production of writing: Empirical research
Summary:
This diploma project, emerged after speculation regarding the form of the Greek educational system, which is persistent on teaching formalities. It is a fact that the transmitted knowledge in the current system is not connected to the students' experiences, even though this is projected as a necessary need by modern study programs. On the contrary, it continues to depend on "mechanical" memorization of the teaching material. This has an impact on the students, who present difficulties in their writing, despite the numerous influences from the school environment as well as the society. Thus, this project studies the subject of writing and its teaching approaches. More specifically it focuses on the first stage of the writing process, the pre-writing stage and the strategies for collecting information for the production of writing according to the text-centered procedural (genre) approach. The case study consisted of two gymnasium 3rd classes whose students worked during the pre-writing and the writing stage.
