Summary:
The aim of this thesis is to study whether the educational scenarios may not only improve students’ attainments, but also contribute to teachers’ professional development. Thus, qualitative research of case studies was conducted. The sample studied included four teachers working in the 2nd Experimental Model High School of Athens, who designed and /or applied educational scenarios during the academic year 2014-2015. In particular, research questions were: firstly, if the scenarios include factors and experiences that are likely to support teachers’ professional development; secondly, if there were any aspects of professional development that the scenarios may scaffold teachers. Research data gathered were analyzed by the method of the grounded theory. Finally, factors of professional growth emerged, considered whether as necessary conditions before the engagement in educational scenarios, or as crucial characteristics of scenarios themselves that emerged during the teachers’ engagement in scenarios. Both of the aforementioned factors seem to support teachers’ professional development in many aspects.
