Investigating students' attitudes towards Ancient Greek Language: The case of the teacher and the curriculum in secondary school
Summary:
This research aims to investigate the impact of the teacher and the curriculum on students’ attitude towards the school subject 0f ancient Greek in secondary school. The research took place at the Experimental Music School Pallinis, during the school year 2014-2015, with the participation of 145 students, aged 12-15. With the help of a questionnaire as research instrument, we investigated the subject through the combination of quantitative and qualitative method, by the application of the SPSS (Statistical Program of Social Sciences) and the approach of content analysis. The statistically significant results (p < 0,05) highlighted both a) the leading role of the teacher in student’s attitude towards the subject of ancient Greek, and b) the effect of some important parameters of the curriculum (degree of difficulty, usefulness and students’ preferences of the content). The conclusions seek not only to promote further research and improving changes on the teaching process of this course in secondary education, but also can support the instructor of the course with useful information.
