Validity Study of the Situational Triggers of Aggressive Responses (STAR) Scale in sample with depressive disorders
Summary:
The main goal of the present study is to examine the validity of the Situational Triggers of Aggressive Responses (STAR) Scale in populations with depressive disorders. STAR is a self-report instrument examining individual differences in the type of events and antecedents that make people feel aggressive. Measuring the extent to which different events make individuals feel aggressive, facilitates the clinical practice and the prevention of aggression. Anger is an intense emotional response that often leads to public acts of aggression and it is also a noticeable symptom in depressed patients. As results of various studies suggest, depression has been found to be more significantly associated with aggression than in general population. In addition, we examined the relationship between the two factors of STAR Scale and the two variables of self-esteem and social skills. The sample consists of 41 individuals diagnosed with depressive disorders who receive psychotherapy. According to our findings the internal reliability index of STAR Scale is high and the two factors of the scale are highly correlated. Furthermore, the results have shown that scoring does not vary significantly between the general population and individuals diagnosed with depressive disorders. That is, STAR Scale scores do travel well and are applicable in population with depressive disorders.
