In this thesis, the Monetary and the Fiscal Policy as well as the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) are analyzed. In particular, their interaction with the economic or political crises which they have with the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Member – States (ms) of the Eurozone (EZ) are historically analyzed in depth. At the same time, the communicative context of media by means of the agenda setting and its choice of topics are analyzed as well. Furthermore, the methodological framework of this study is based on the content analysis method and the use of statistics – spss.
The results show that the problematic character of the EZ architecture emerges in the agenda setting of the e-newspapers. This means that it is actually a part of the public political and journalistic discourse/ debate. Moreover, it was found that the coverage of the issue of the ailing eurozone architecture mainly emerges during periods of common European issues, such as Elections, Summits etc. Indeed, it is noted that the issues at the national level in the Member – States (eg. The Greek debt crisis, rules violation by France and Italy) takes on European dimensions and are displayed as European issues related to the EZ’ architecture. Finally, there was no great variation in political views and interpretation between the mass media in the Member – States found. Therefore, there are a few differences in rhetoric expression and quality between the German and the Greek Media as it was expected due to their different history, culture and their role within the EZ.
