Applying Risk Analysis Techniques to ELearning Educational Data
Summary:
In the context of this dissertation, the concept of e-learning is analyzed and the systems for e-learning are described. Additionally, a systemic approach for the web instructional systems’ development is presented and emphasis is laid on a particular phase of the development process which is the learning design.
In parallel manner, the concept of risk is analyzed and the process for risk analysis and risk management are also described. In a more elaborate manner, the dissertation focuses on the risk of an e-learning course failure and mainly the research has been directed into identifying risks factors that could lead to the inclement state a student not culminate a specific course successfully, denoting that the entire learning process might be led to a negative outcome.
This dissertation exhibits a specific methodology developed for managing the risk of students’ failure in e-learning courses. That methodology is being applied to two specific e-learning courses, the design of which was based upon a specific methodology in the field of web instructional systems development, called CADMOS.
The key-points of the conclusions that are presented can be used to generate a students’ performance prediction system embellished with the appropriate warning utility on the case that one student is on the verge of not culminating a specific course. The feedback that can be elicited by such a system can be used by an educator to improve his/her learning design and additionally to ameliorate the entire learning process.
