Fable and reality in the Yasar Kemal's novel - The history of an island upheavel
Summary:
This work, entitled "Myth and Reality in the novel by Yasar Kemal, The History of an Island - Uprooting", is being drafted in the context of the completion of my studies at the School of Economics and Political Sciences at the Department of "Turkish Studies and Modern Asian Studies" Direction "Language, Translation, Secretariat, Culture". It is a theoretical work which is the analysis of the above novel in a fiction - literary and then a real - historical level. The novel belongs to writer and novelist Kemal Yaşar (1923-2015), while Panayot Abatsi (Panayot Abacı, 1914-2005) performed the translation in Modern Greek in 1999.
The author, through the pages of his book, carries us in the year 1923, at the time of the great exchange of populations between Greece and Turkey, which was signed with the Treaty of Lausanne after the Asia Minor catastrophe, wanting with this work to condemn the war and everything His tribulations, one of which is uprooting. This is precisely what this novel is about, the uprooting of the war, the loss of the country, beloved people, and life.
As mentioned above, the purpose of the work is to analyze the work at a fictional - literary and real - historical level. But let's see a little more specifically what this means and what will follow in the next pages of the paper. In the first chapter there is a review of the life and work of the novelist Yasar Kemal. Also We quote the summary of the work so that the reader knows the plot of the novel.
In the second chapter we analyze the work at a fictional - literary level by analyzing the space, the time and the characters of the story. Finally, in the third chapter, which is titled "Myth and Reality", the historical - real analysis of the project is carried out. Thus in the first part of the chapter are presented the most important real - historical events that have been embroiled with great skill in the plot of the novel alongside the fiction.
Then follows a text in which we analyze the relations between Greeks and Turks before and after the exchange of populations. Finally, through the last part of the work we will deal with the war, this horrible human creation, with its suffering and of course with one of its results, the uprooting which, as many years as we can, any forms of change War remains a timeless and integral element
