Summary:
The present thesis concerns an educational software template intended for students of the last grade of the Greek primary school. The role of the software is assistive in the educational process and targets to manage most typical problems and difficulties encountered during the use of complex grammatical phenomena.
The popularity of instructional technology and interactive educational software is related to the fact that it transforms the learning process into a pleasant and interesting procedure for the students. Consequently, the teaching is substantial because the students acquire incentives. In particular, according to research, the teaching of grammar with interactive educational software has shown to be more effective because students-users can process and assimilate the multimedia information in their own pace. As a result, learning time is reduced to about 30%.
The present educational software is a multimedia-dialogue System in which the user interacts individually or in groups, either directly through voice or indirectly through the keypad and mouse. The technical characteristics meet the developmental needs of the users. For example, the graphics include sound, 3D image, movement and agents through which the interaction is accomplished. The instructions are clear and comprehensive allowing easy memorization. Furthermore, there is immediate feedback after each response.
The System’s environment depicts a beach in which the users are able to carry out various activities. Each activity includes an exercise and for its successful completion, the users have to answer specific queries. The content is structured into three autonomous units, each of them is located to a specific area on the beach. The users have the freedom to move freely into the System, to seek for assistance when needed and to search the internet for more information.
