EU Global Strategy - Expectations, Capabilities and Operational Aspects
Summary:
The EU Global Strategy (EUGS) represents the outcome of a two-year process, which was launched by the European Council conclusions report in December 2013 and was coordinated by the Mogherini Staff and the European External Action Service (EEAS). All this copious procedur was carried out through extensive consultations between the Member States and the EU institutions, European experts and representatives of third countries.
The need for an in-depth analysis of the regional and global strategic landscape surrounding Europe is to a large extent necessary and vital. The wider environment surrounding the EU consists of compelling multi-dimensional challenges of a complex nature requiring special and cautious handling and immediate treatment.
Therefore, this work attempts an initial analysis of the content of the new EU Global Strategy. In particular, the described expectations and capabilities, within the Global Strategy text, are explored and the operational aspects of the new Strategy are being analyzed. Concluding, this dissertation attempts to outline the way EU Global Strategy affects the shaping of the CFSP and in particular its CSDP operational arm in the ultimate effort for a future defense integration of the EU.
