Leadership and school effectiveness: The case of primary school directors in the area of Attica in Greece
Summary:
This work attempts to highlight the leadership style of primary school directors in the area of Attica in Greece and to explore their views on school efficiency and school assessment. Based on the views of 10 primary school directors of Athens, recorded using a semi-structured interview, it appears that directors operate more applying laws and circulars, and less as leaders who direct the human resources of the organization they are leading. Elements from the participatory and transformational leadership style emerge from their placements, without, however, allowing us to speak clearly about participatory or transformational leadership styles. The directors judge school effectiveness based on the achievement of goals (cognitive, emotional, social) and, while in favor of self-assessment, they are negative about teachers' assessment by themselves and vice versa.
