Influences of Platonic and Aristotelian philosophy on the letters and Amphilochia of Patriarch Photios
Summary:
This survey explores the intake of Platonic and Aristotelian philosophy in the letters and Amphilochia of Photios. We mention both cases of direct effect, where we have a verbose use of platonic and aristotelian passages, as well as the cases in which these parables are paraphrased, as well as the changes that exist. It also analyzes the different ways of using the ancient philosophical items in relation to the Scriptures and other theological texts and the rhetorical function of the philosophical passages in the letters and the Amphilochia of Photios. However, the content of this research concerns not only the recruitment of passages but also images and the incorporation of persons of ancient Greek mythology from ancient philosophical works in the letters and Amphilochia. Other aspects of this task are the case of cases where Photius seems quite likely to refer to ancient philosophical works by heart and not by drawing manuscripts he probably owned. In addition, there are cases where the great patriarch expresses his partial or complete disagreement with various Platonic views and the way in which the philosophical passages function as the means for a more probable approach to issues of theological subject matter. Moreover, in this project are explained the philosophical influences of the purely philosophical content Amphilochio 77, which refers to the Genera and Species in Plato and Aristotle, as well as the clearly fuller way in Amphilochia 137 to 147 compared to Aristotle, with which the a great patriarch analyzes the metropolitan Amphilochius of the concepts of an entire Aristotelian work of the Categoriae. Finally, we analyze the stylistic differentiation of Photius in the letters and the Amphilochia philosophical themes both in relation to letters and Amphilochia of other subjects as compared to its ancient standards.
