Managing the mourning of children and adolescents from foreign students (deaths of parents or loved ones) by teachers
Summary:
In our times, we find it natural to explain to children what they have to do
with birth and creation, but completely unnatural and unthinkable to
we are talking to them about death and loss. This is considered to be the case
Nielsen and Papadatou (1999), macabre, sad and incompatible with childhood
age.
People are not willing to talk openly about life and death in
personal level, especially they are not prepared to do it in front of children
(Leontari, 2015). It is important to understand that the issue of death and
of the loss involves children from a very early age. Typically, adults,
when they encounter existential questions of children, try or change
or to protect the child by offering him promises and
assurances unfounded as to the future outcome of things
(Papadatou, Mamadakis, Papazoglou, Ralli & Nielsen, 1999).
Death is in life, so the school is confronted with
issues relating to loss. How ready and able to support it
the child who mourns the death of the familiar face and the class affected
from the loss of a member of the school community? (Papadatou & Camberi, 2013).
In this diploma thesis the child mourning refers only to
death rather than other forms of loss as the death of a loved one
person is the most painful event in a child's life.
Managing mourning is true that it is a difficult one
a sensitive issue, which is often a taboo for Greek society. Or so far
experience from Greek education is extremely limited, as did the
availability or readiness of the educational world to deal with them.
Therefore, since a large percentage of teachers feel they do not have it
preparedness to talk about such subtle issues as their students, it is judged
it is imperative to investigate their attitudes and attitudes on
this subject.
The theoretical part of this diploma thesis presents them
results of past investigations into the management of mourning and
there is talk of the concept of mourning and lamentation, of how
children perceive the concept of death, how they react
death of a loved one and the role to be taken by one
teacher in such incidents.
In the research part are mentioned the objectives and the research questions,
describes the methodology, the way in which the survey was conducted,
the results of the survey are presented and commented on. End,
some suggestions for the results of the research are presented
reference to the contribution of the survey. The questions are attached to the annex
they were the semi-structured interview and a whole interview of one
teacher.
