Quality management systems and their contribution to economic growth of healthcare services.

Quality improvement of healthcare services is included in the main priorities of health systems and in reforms that are in progress in most of the developed countries. Fundamental factor of success in each effort of quality improvement is the participation of workforce and main decisive role has the proper information and the effective communication.
In this thesis is presented in principle quality management systems and then for that and if they are applied in hospitals in Greece with purpose to conduct useful conclusions with regard to the potential benefits resulting from the application of an integrated quality management system, where help in the efficiency of services provided to patients but also to improve the carrier's own organization. Then there is a reference to growth and contribution of quality management systems with their application to the Greek health care system and its structures. Finally set out measures and suggestions for the achievement of it.
The purpose of this study is to show how to apply essential practices in the introduction and improvement of the quality in Greek public hospitals, to identify Quality management systems and how their implementations contribute effectively to the economic development of the health system.
Methodology: theoretical investigation based on relevant literature on the concept of quality in health services and quality assurance. The empirical investigation was based on a reference as to the quality management systems (quality system structure in hospitals), standards, certification and accreditation, as well as review of the record of public hospitals who implement a quality management system. Finally we come to the conclusions of our study and also suggestions. All information was obtained through literature (foreign and Greek), internet, scientific articles and research papers.
