Clytemnestra’s french monologues of the 20th and the 21st century New forms of the Tragic : From the institution of Polis to the construction of the Person
Summary:
The main aim of this thesis was the examination of the proportional (dramatic) relationship between the identity related agony of the ancient Polis (as represented in Ancient Drama) and the contemporary agony of the Person (as represented in the modern dramatic monologue). For this, modern and postmodern identity theories, self-narrative and accountability theories were examined and transferred within the autonomous dramatic monologue. It was argued that the dramatic confession acts as a tragedy condition for the modern subject. Field of application via qualitative research, were two French monologic rewritings of Clytemnestra by two female writers of the 20th and 21st century (M. Yourcenar and M.P. Cattino), which were compared with the archetypal heroine of Oresteia. As outcomes of this thesis could be registered a new typology for the tragic, focusing on the judgement, and on the pending identity of the monological hero.
Γαλλικά: L’objectif principal de cette thèse fut l’examen de la relation (de convenance) entre l’agonie identitaire de Polis de l’Antiquité (comme elle est représentée dans la tragédie antique) et l’agonie identitaire de la Personne contemporaine (comme elle est représentée dans le monologue dramatique moderne). Dans ce but, des théories modernes et post-modernes de l’identité et du récit de soi étaient examinées et transférées dans le monologue dramatique autonome. On a soutenu l’idée que la confession dramatique agit comme une condition de surgissement du tragique du sujet contemporain. Deux monologues autonomes, reécritures de Clytemnestre par deux écrivaines françaises du 20e et 21e siècle («Clytemnestre ou le Crime» de M. Yourcenar et «Les larmes de Clytemnestre» de M.P. Cattino) et leur comparaison avec la héroïne archétypique d’«Orestie» , furent le champ d’application via une recherche qualitative. En tant que résultat de cette thèse, on peut considérer une nouvelle typologie du tragique focalisée sur le jugement et l’identité en suspens du héros monologique.
