Correlation study of personality traits in patients with lung cancer
Summary:
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer and is currently the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Smoking is the main risk factor for the development of the disease. Like any type of cancer, its manifestation has many implications for the mental health of patients, which have been thoroughly studied over time. Our work has moved between the sciences of medicine and psychology, studying not the psychological reactions but the personality of patients with lung cancer. In particular, stress, anxiety, and hostility were measured as characteristics of the personality of cancer patients. Our aim was to measure the above characteristics, compare them with the corresponding values of the general population and look at a possible correlation between them. Our sample consisted of 62 patients with lung cancer, on chemotherapy, in the absence of historical psychiatric disorders. The results confirmed our assumptions. Cancer patients showed higher values in their personality's traits compared to those found in the healthy population. These traits show a positive correlation. The findings from this research provide material and ideas for further research into and correlation of lung cancer and personality of individuals with this disease.
