The views of school principals in primary education for the importance of values, principles and attitudes in effective leadership
Summary:
In the context of the educational institution, as in every form of institution, the values, the principles and the attitudes of leaders seem to play a crucial role in the effectiveness of leadership. The values influence the work of the school principal in making decisions and in shaping school culture. In the recent years, more and more leadership forms appear to focus on values. Meanwhile, the public discourse is also developing around them. According to research findings, the overwhelming majority of primary school leaders in Greece consider values as a key factor for effective leadership. They perceive their necessity in making ethical decisions and shaping the appropriate school culture, although they admit that they are not fully able to establish a commonly accepted orientation in their school. Therefore, they are willing to broaden their knowledge on this subject through a wide range of ways.
