Integration of refugee children into the Greek elementary school: Teachers' views and positions
Summary:
This dissertation Thesis was elaborated in the context of the Inter-University Postgraduate Study Program "Counseling Psychology and Counseling in Education, Health and Workplaces". This qualitative research is about the integration and adaptation of foreign and refugee pupils in elementary school. Specifically, it aims to record the views of teachers with experience in teaching foreign pupils about the integration of refugees in the elementary school. They also explore issues of relationships between teachers and parents of native students. Semi-structured meetings with teachers have resulted in research data analyzed according to the thematic analysis. As far as research findings are concerned, it was important to highlight the influence of parents not only on the attitudes of their children on their diversity but also on their relations with teachers who seem to avoid any disagreement with parents even when they are impeded their work. As regards the question of the integration of refugees into the education system, it is for the participants in the research that the ministry is required to provide training.
