Summary:
The present paper aims to best illustrate the problems encountered in Greek language by bilingual students residing within Greek territory, with particular emphasis on the possible benefits of bilingualism under the appropriate educational and social conditions. Its aim is to study the linguistic deadlocks in the Greek language that bilingual students receive in the year 2018. It investigates the level of bilingual education, the level of Greek-language education, the evaluation and educational interventions of teachers in bilingual children. The first part of that work presents the theoretical framework on interculturality and intercultural education. The second and third chapters deal with the definition, types and theoretical models of bilingualism and how it can benefit bilingual students under the appropriate conditions. In the fourth chapter are given the methodological tools used and in the fifth one is analyzed the data of the research carried out at one High School of Acharnes in the form of structured interviews with 62 students and semi-structured interviews with 9 teachers. In the sixth chapter the bibliography is found and the annexes are in the 7th.
In terms of research, its results showed that the majority of bilingual school students, 82%, were born in Greece by parents of different nationalities, while only 18% were born outside Greece. All bilingual students born in Greece consider that they have at least a fairly good level of Greek in relation to their classmates, while none of the non-native pupils in Greece consider that they have a high level compared to their classmates. According to the views of the teachers, the level of Greek language education of bilingual students, regardless of place of birth, is high only at the communicative level, as the use of written, academic speech, understanding and perception is extremely low. Among the bilingual students there are only a few exceptions.
After the presentation of the data, proposals are being made to further investigate the causes that lead to the linguistic difficulty faced by bilingual students in their daily routine and whether or how it affects or prevents them from joining them later in society.
