EARTHQUAKE LOCATION WITH THE USE OF THE SEISMIC ARRAY OF PYLOS
Summary:
The present M.Sc. Thesis deals with the earthquake location in Greece by applying the methodology of seismic array proccessing to a seismic array in Pylos, Greece. The aim of the
Thesis is to assess seismic array contribution to earthquake location and seismicity monitoring in
the broader area of Greece, mainly supplementary to existing seismographic networks. Primarily, the seismic signals, arrived the array, were being detected and the method of beamforming was applied to the resulting waveforms, aiming to calculate the values of slowness and backazimuth. At the same time, the onset times of the seismic phases, in the array and at nearby stations, were calculated in order to be inputted in the HYPOSAT algorithm and that the seismic parameters be calculated, and thus the local magnitude of the earthquakes was calculated. Finally, an extensive analysis of the final results was carried out in order to evaluate the final results.
