Summary:
In recent years, widespread use and dissemination of the Internet and smartphones offers teachers the opportunity to use learning with such kind of devices in the educational process, providing opportunities for learning support and improving performance within and outside the classroom, including: 1) geospatial technologies, 2) mobile search, 3) use of the camera for image acquisition, and 4) social networking. Knowledge acquired through constant learning requires that it be presented in an authentic context, according to which knowledge can not be understood irrespective of its content. Therefore, with mobile learning, students can take up activities outside the classroom, which was not possible in the past.
Augmented Reality or Enhanced Reality Technology is a technology that enables live viewing of a natural environment with the help of a mobile phone or tablet's camera, of which reality has been augmented by viewing information, pictures, sounds, videos or spaces designed within a computer. Data views are possible from either mobile screens or Augmented Reality spectacles. In particular, Augmented Reality opens the road to a new way of learning through the provision of knowledge and information at any time and from any place.
This paper explores the use of Augmented Reality in the educational process. In particular, emphasis is placed on the use of Enhanced Books and their effect on learning, through the design and development of a mobile augmented reality application (Layar), which augments specific pages of the school textbook of the history of the classroom with multimedia content.
