Assessing pupils' behavior through scales supplemented by teachers
Summary:
Behavioral problems, as well as positive aspects of student behavior, are of great interest to the educational and scientific community. In particular, assessing pupils' behavior through scales supplemented by teachers is a useful tool in the hands of both researchers and educators and has been remarkably flourishing in recent years. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the behavioral problems, as well as the positive elements in the behavior of pupils in primary school and high school. A particular purpose of the research is the effect of certain demographic variables on the assessment of students’ behavior by teachers. The sample of the survey consists of 312 primary and secondary school teachers, more specifically, 156 teachers in elementary schools and 156 high school teachers. Indeed, by the high school teachers, 78 are teachers of theoretical sciences, 41 of sciences of mathematics and physics and 37 of other sciences. The questionnaires used were the Conners Teacher Rating Scale - Revised (L) (Conners, 1997) and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) (Goodman, 1997). The results showed that there are statistically significant differences in some CTRS - R (L) and SDQ subscales in terms of level of study, grade of work, specialization, work relationship, administrative tasks and statistically significant correlations in terms of age, the teaching hours, the total teaching experience, the number of class students and the years of occupation. Finally, there was a strong correlation between almost all subscales of the two scales.
