Job burnout among Greek Primary School teachers: a comparative study of teachers working in the public and the private sector
Summary:
The present study is attempting to compare the levels of burnout and occupational stress of the teachers (teachers' stress) of Primary Education in Attiki in public and private schools and also to identify the sources of occupational stress, as perceived by teachers. The sample consisted of teachers from public (N= 63) and private schools (N = 56). The data was collected by using Questionnaires and analysis was made using the statistical package SPSS 19.0. The results indicated that teachers experience middle levels of burnout and middle levels of stress, with teachers of the public sector experiencing relatively higher stress levels than teachers from the private sector. The gradient in severity of occupational stress sources varied statistically significant between the private and public teachers. These findings may constitute prevention or treatment of job burnout of teachers records for the administration of education.
