Preparedness and the role of Primary and Secondary education teachers in recognizing and addressing mental mealth issues of their students
Summary:
This research was conducted to examine whether Primary and Secondary Education teachers are well prepared to identify and address/manage the mental health problems their students are experiencing. At this following task, it can be observed that, many are issues that disrupt the mental health of children and adolescents. At this point, the role of the teacher in the proper development of a child's mental health is crucial and irreplaceable. School and family are the first surroundings through which a child grows, and which should provide him with the appropriate skills to spend the rest of his life. In regards to the research, a quantitative method was used as a tool for the questionnaire, distributed in the area of Attiki and used in several primary and secondary schools in a sample (n = 261). Random sampling was used to make the results impartial. Teachers were asked to respond honestly to a series of questions. The statistical significance level was set to (a = 5%) and the data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. The results of the survey show differences in the views of teachers, possibly derived from some factors (gender, age, job, years length of service and level of education). Results could be used in later research to improve teacher education by providing them with the necessary skills to be ready to cope with their difficult task.
