Summary:
The present postgraduate dissertation carried out in the faculty of Primary Education of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens during 2017- 2018. The title of the dissertation is: “The perceptions of primary school pupils concerning time measurement”.
The aim of this dissertation is at first to present a historical flashback of Time, then to present the Greek Mathematics Reality on the specific unit and then to present research and studies on Time and finally to display the conclusions of our own research on Time measurement.
At first, in Chapter 1, the introduction of the work, the concept of time from various perspectives and a first reference to the historical roots of this concept and the problems it creates in the educational community is referred.

Chapter 2 deals with the history of measuring time. More specifically, it starts with the concept of time, it continues with the measurement of time by the Ancient Greeks as well as the time units that were used, and ends with measuring instruments of antiquity that existed or invented in the Greek world.

Then, in Chapter 3, we analyze a philosophical view of the matter of time, which has been a strong concern for two of the greatest philosophers, Plato and Aristotle.

In the following chapters, a transfer is made to the present. In Chapter 4, we find research, studies and experiments that have focused on the measurement of time, one of the problematic units of Mathematics; in Chapter 5 we come across the Greek mathematical reality through the Interdisciplinary Framework Program of Mathematics Studies and the Curriculum of Primary Education and in Chapter 6, we present the module of time measurement through the teaching textbooks of all classes of the Greek Primary School.

In Chapter 7, we present the research we have done. There are talks about research assumptions, the research approach, and the composition of the sample, the development and evaluation of the research tool. The chapter concludes with the results of the survey and descriptive analyzes, using tables and charts, a statistical conclusion and, finally, the investigation of the research cases.

Finally, in Chapter 8, the findings of the research and its extensions are presented, followed by the Bibliography and the Appendix of the dissertation.
