Summary:
The present thesis attempts to examine those parameters to be taken into account both in the tuition of oral skill in Modern Greek as foreign language and in the planning of teaching material for the development of the specific skill. In the first part we analyze theoretical matters such as the features of speech and its differences from writing, the negotiation skills of meaning and the communicative strategies used by each speaker during oral communication. Furthermore, we focused on the particular attributes of the interlocutors as well as on issues of pronunciation which affect the successful transmission of a message. In the second part, it was deemed necessary to analyze particular sections from three textbooks teaching Modern Greek language as a foreign one. More specific, what is at stake is the way according to which exercises and activities, aiming at the forementioned skill, are structured noting both the positive elements and the omissions. Finally, we provide several general conclusions based on theory and on what has been peered into the textbooks, aiming for effective teaching of oral skill.
