Evaluation of conformit in hypertensive petients to dietetic and pharmaceutical treatment
Summary:
Introduction: Nowadays hypertension is one of the most common and deadly conditions. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure are major and independent factors that lead to cardiovascular disease.
Objective: The main cause of this research is to evaluate the grade of the conformity of hypertensive patients according to dietetic and pharmaceutical treatment.
Methods: We studied 131 hypertensive-hospitalized patients that were admitted to various hospitals of Greece such as Hippokrateion, Atticon, and Evangelismos general hospitals of Athens. The collection of the sample was taken via specific questionnaire fulfilled by the patients. The statistic tests that were used for the research were x2-test, t-test and Anova and Pearson Correlations
Results: The sample of the research was consisted of 131 patients and the majority of the population were women (71, 8%). We found out that the population who follows the Mediterranean diet is people above the age of 75 p=0,001. Also those who attended primary and secondary education p=0,033, patients with chronic diseases over 11 years p<0,001. Moreover those with cardiovascular medications p=0,014, those who take antidepressants p=0,022, people who undergo a coronary artery bypass grafting p=0,028, non-alcohol users and non-smokers p=0,004, and p<0,001 each.
Furthermore the population who follows an active life were those who are over 60 years old p=<0,001, people with less than 4 years of chronic disease, p<0,001, patients without coronary disease p=0,001 and those with no cause of acute coronary syndrome p<0,001, those who stay as active smokers p=0,003. In addition, people who are well informed about their health condition are more likely to follow a Mediterranean diet p=0,044 and have an active life p=0,003.
Conclusion: In treated hypertensive patients, it was shown that they have a higher adaption to Mediterranean diet while the 52% of the population were highly active. Moreover, according to hypertension most of the European and American guidelines insist constant primary healthcare prevention to every hypertensive patient.
