Time of patient management with trauma at E.R
Summary:
INTRODUCTION: Trauma is a serious problem of public health in the modern society, which affects the lives mainly of young and healthy adults and underage people. The reception, revitalization, diagnosis and confrontation hall for patients with trauma is the Emergency Room (ER) of hospitals. The time needed for the completion of the diagnostic procedure and the evaluation of the patient’s condition is called management time (stay-treatment).
AIM: The aim of this study was the recording of the management time for patients with trauma in the Emergency Room of a general provincial hospital.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The population specimen of this study consisted of 32 patients with multiple traumas. The collection of data was carried out from 05/01/2016 to 05/31/2018. The management time for the patient at the ER started from the time of their arrival until their admission in the appropriate department or their transfer to a tertiary hospital. The statistic program SPSS ver 22 was used for the data analysis.
RESULTS: The majority of the emergent injured people was men (78.1%) and the average age was 57 (57.22%). 75% of the incidents had to do with road accidents and 25% had to do with falls. The management –processing time at the ER for all the patients was less than one hour. 51.7% of the incidents was admitted to the surgical department of the same hospital, while 48.3% of them needed to be transferred to a tertiary hospital of Athens. The response time of the National Emergency Aid Centre for all the incidents was less than one hour.
CONCLUSIONS: Dealing with trauma requires knowledge, constant and appropriate education and training, as well as monitoring of the bibliography for the development of new skills and techniques for all the health professionals involved (nurses, doctors and paramedics). The prompt revitalization on the scene of the accident, the accurate diagnosis of the most important and life-threatening problems at the ER, as well as the effective and holistic nursing care at every nursing section a patient will pass through, constitute determining factors for the reduction of the consequences of the injury and finally, the fullest recovery possible of the injured person with the restriction of disability.
