Treatment of recurrent varicose veins under ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy
Summary:
The present study aimed at recording, analyzing and comparing the findings of clinical studies on the efficacy and characteristics of ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS) for recurrent varicose veins. Original research studies were sought in international online scientific databases and ten studies published in the period 2006-2018, which met the inclusion criteria, were selected. All studies found are observational / cohort studies with monitoring intervals from a few days to five years. No randomized trials or controlled trials were found. All the studies were intended to present the results of sclerotherapy in various samples and report success rates of over 80%. Recanalization occurs at 9-29%. Treatment is completed after the first session in most patients and may take up to three sessions. The repetition of the method is tolerable by the patient, easy and short with minimal complications of mild form. The emergence of thrombosis after treatment of recurrent varicose veins of clinical category C:5-6 requires further investigation.
