Summary:
Infectious diseases can cause a serious threat to public health. Epidemics which occur from time to time, constitute a cause of an increased number of deaths and particularly, in cases of natural disasters, they can be the cause of the 2/3 of human losses.
Tuberculosis constitutes a global threat to public health and continues to kill more people than any other infectious disease. However, tuberculosis can be both treated and prevented. Policies concerning health issues can drastically decrease the contagion of the disease. World Health Organisation has published an annual report about global tuberculosis since 1997, in order to provide an overall and updated evaluation of the epidemic of tuberculosis and the progress made in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Stop Tb society published the "global plan for the containment of tuberculosis" in 2005, which had aimed to a reduction by 50% of the frequency and mortality of the disease by 2015, with an ultimate goal its elimination by 2015. The implementation of the measures and the containment of the disease, on a regional, national and world level will shape new public health policies for tuberculosis.
In the present assignment we examine the epidemiology of the disease in connection with the priorities for the control and containment of the tuberculosis. Also, we study the tuberculin infection of students of primary education on a local level and particularly in the Municipalities of Piraeus, Keratsiniou-Drapetsonas, Nikeas-Ag. Ioannis Rentis, Koridallos and Perama, their vaccination with the BCG vaccine and the process of raising parents' awareness concerning vaccination coverage against tuberculosis during the academic year 2014-2015.
