Summary:
In the context of globalization it is through the use of cultural diversity as a cultural "capital" of the educational system of each nation - state. In this light, the need of ideological redefinition of national education policy and exploitation of social inclusion policies is emerged. Therefore, the establishment and expansion of the institution of Reception Classes in schools, in which implemented the program of teaching Greek as a second language with a view to membership is promoted. From this development raises the need to investigate both the theoretical and methodological approaches for teaching a second language.
Through literature study it is observed the shift of focus from the traditional teaching model to learner-centered and flexible teaching models. The Task based language teaching method is one of the most recent teaching methodological approaches in the conquest of the second language, in which are through the formation of a linguistic environment that favors the interaction of learners with the purpose of activating the processes of language acquisition of the target language.
The objective of this study is to investigate basic theoretical and methodological approaches made for the teaching of Greek as a second language and to enlighten the results and conditions didactic exploitation of Task based language teaching method in teaching Greek as a second language in Reception Classes II of Education Action Zones of Primary Education. To fulfill the research objective qualitative study is chosen using semi-structured interview. In this research four teachers serving in reception classes in primary schools of the Aspropyrgos region of Western Attica and four teachers serving in Reception Class in Primary Schools of the East Attica region are involved. The classes welcome Roma pupils and pupils of foreign refugees living in the camp and hosting structures within the limits of the area in which each school is located.
From the research analysis it is shown that the teachers are drawing teaching practices either from professional experience or from active search of methodological tools, incorporating task on their teaching so that the role taking is encouraged and experiential learning and interaction resulting in the development of language use are promoted. However, teaching effectiveness is interwoven with the proper preparation of the teacher and the operating framework for the Reception Classes. The need for training on the appropriate use of methodological and practical tools in language teaching both in-school and individual level are emphasized, as well as the need to improve the operation of the reception classes with input from all stakeholders in order to maximize the effectiveness of the school and, therefore, the school and social integration of students.
