Summary:
This paper attempts to present the most frequent findings in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, with a particular focus on the issue of infertility, a frequent finding in these patients. In addition, we present the way in which female fertility is affected when suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, as well as the existing treatment methods proposed in the international literature to address the problem of infertility.
The paper consists of two parts. The first part includes the history of the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, the pathogenetic mechanism, the genetic background, the diagnostic criteria proposed in this regard, as well as the basic findings that impede the everyday life and health of the suffering women. In the second part we analyze the way in which the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome affects the normal endocrine function and hence the fertility of women, while the pharmaceutical, surgical, non-pharmaceutical methods of treatment as well as the method of assisted reproduction in affected women will be presented. In order to deepen the specific issues, relevant articles from the Pubmed and Cochrane databases were extracted with key words / phrases: PCOS, fertility and PCOS, PCOS effect in everyday life.
The aim of this paper is to provide a tool for enhancing the knowledge of infertility care professionals in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
