Summary:
La seule pièce théâtrale complète d'Aris Alexandrou c’est Antigone, un texte se référant à l’Occupation allemande et la Guerre Civile. Écrite en 1951 durant la période où Alexandrou se trouvait en exil, la pièce traite de ces mêmes questions idéologiques qui formeront plus tard le contenu de La Caisse (1974), son seul roman. C’est ainsi qu’on constate que la réflexion de l'auteur, menée tout au long de sa vie, et portant sur le dialogue qui constitue le cœur des conflits au sein de la Gauche grecque, a été d’abord exprimée de manière dramatique. Malgré le fait que, ce "dialogue théâtral" était une œuvre écrite très tôt, il n’a trouvé le chemin de la scène qu’un demi-siècle plus tard, mis en scène au Théâtre National du Nord de la Grèce, par Victor Arditti (2003). La critique de la représentation ainsi que de la pièce s’est trouvé en conformité avec le traitement défavorable que l'auteur a suffert tout au long de sa vie, à la fois par ses opposants idéologiques ainsi que par ses compagnons. Alexandrou n'a jamais cessé d'exprimer son opinion hérétique et poursuivre le dialogue, pourtant il n’a pas achevé une pièce intitulée "Silence", dont un projet inédit, qui permet une multitude des interprétations possibles, a été repéré dans le cadre la recherche sur son Antigone.
An Antigone on the German Occupation and the Greek Civil War is the only complete play by Aris Alexandrou. It was written in 1951 in his exile, and discusses ideological topics that will later form the content of The Box (1974), his only much acclaimed novel. Thus, the writer's lifelong concern on the dialogue that constitutes the core of the conflicts within the Greek Left was first expressed in the form of a theatre play. Although the play was written so early, this "theatrical dialogue" did not find the way for the stage until half a century later, when it was performed at the State Theatre of Northern Greece, directed by Victor Arditti (2003). The reception both of the performance and the play was rather similar to the unfavorable treatment of the author throughout his life both by ideological opponents and companions. Alexandrou never stopped expressing his opinion and pursuing the dialogue, but nonetheless he never completed a play titled "Silence", from which an unpublished design, open to a multitude of interpretations and approaches is discovered in his archive in the framework of this research.
