Translated title:
The poetic and prose discourse in the Hermeneutic Dialogue
Summary:
This qualitative research aims to explore the hermeneutic dialogue on the basis of literature genres. In particular, by viewing the hermeneutic dialogue as a school reading practice in the realm of literature education, this study aspires to depict how poetic and prose discourse interferes with the method’s implementation. The planning and conduction of this research are aligned with the methodological principles and processes of grounded theory. Our data base is constructed on students’ interviews and field notes of lessons at the collaborating high school of Athens, where the hermeneutic dialogue has been taking place. The data analysis features that both stability and variability characterize the hermeneutic dialogue. The first aspect is irrelevant to the genre division of literature, while is linked to the coherent structure of the hermeneutic dialogue. The second aspect of the method is associated with the different dynamics that the hermeneutic dialogue can develop as a result of poetry’s and prose’s inherent characteristics. In conclusion, the hermeneutic dialogue seems to be affected by the functional and structural features of each literature form, by emphasizing on students’ participation in whole-class discussion and interpretation of the texts.
