"Occupational Wellbeing of Special Education Teachers Based on Their Mental Retardation and Burnout"
Summary:
The main concept being examined in this master thesis is the professional well-being of
Special Education teachers in primary education in the Greek educational system. This
variable was studied in relation to teachers' resilience, professional commitment, and health
status. The variables studied were compared with teacher surveys of all levels of education,
mainly in foreign cities. In the literature review, the reader has the opportunity to get an
idea of Special Education, the definition of the concept, the historical route of it being
acknowledged in Greece, as well as the current situation and its legal protection in our
country. Next, an analysis of well-being and the three variables with which it was associated
in this work is to be found. Theoretical data and research on the variables of teacher
resilience, occupational commitment, and health are presented, in particular regarding
anxiety, stress and burnout. The majority of researches agree that stress, job burnout, and
lack of resilience in teachers hinder the development of their occupational well-being and
satisfaction. The theoretical data and research cited on the variables of teacher resilience
and health - in particular stress, stress and occupational exhaustion, have shown a high
tendency to leave and abandon the profession of many teachers experiencing stress and
pressure. Good psychological status, supportive environment, expectations and the age of
the teachers are some of the key factors that allow them to develop their professional well-
being.
