Transformational Theory and Rational Theory Identities. Reinforcement of Cognitive Therapy through Aesthetic Experience.
Summary:
The present research aims to identify the commonalities of Transformation Theory and Rational Emotive Behavior Theory (REBT). This effort was initiated by my acquaintance with this Theory of Adult Education, which greatly drew my attention and activated a different way of thinking and perception. A widespread theory that has been the source and basis for many theorists to deal with the Theoretical Framework of Transformative Learning.

The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate and compare, in a detailed and interpretive way, the content of Transformation Theory and REBT. Thereby, arise the individual aims of comparing the concept and practice of critical reflection and its transformative dynamic in rational theory as well. We are looking for the common ground, the commonalities of the two theories, and how, when combining them can improve the process that each theory serves. An additional goal is to identify how the transformative learning theory can be exploited through aesthetic experience in rational therapy, using the example of stress management.

In this dissertation a bibliographic review of Greek and international bibliography and online research was carried out. At the same time, the primary data collected through questionnaires that were doled to a group of trainees from the public Vocational Training Institute (IEK) in Thebes, which was the sample of our research. Also, we applied to them "alternative" REBT Therapy through Art.
Nonetheless it is extremely difficult to prove the contribution of the results to the existing knowledge, however, it was found that the use of the Aesthetic Experience method in stage D (Dispute) of the Rational Emotive Therapy had a positive effect on those who participated in the search, as their stress was reduced.
We conclude that there is a significant relevance between Transformation Theory and Rational Emotive Behavior Theory and despite the fact that they pertain to different fields (Adult Education – the first one and Psychology the second), however, there are important intersections and their further study and interaction is considered highly useful as it will add powerful triggers and supplies, that will give them the opportunity to become more effective.
